Welcome to the Pueblo West High School Cyclone Band!!!

Patrick Smith

Office hours: M-TH 3:45-4:25

This page is designed to answer some of the basic questions about the band program so that you can have the best possible experience.

Classroom Procedures

1 Water bottles are allowed in the band room. Absolutely no food, gum, candy or colored drinks allowed in class.

2 Be on time.

3 Be prepared. I expect you to practice at home and come to class ready for rehearsal.

4 PLAY YOUR INSTRUMENT EVERY DAY!!!! There is no better way to improve.

5 Attitiude is everything! Encourage one another, help each other out. If there is a problem, see Mr. Smith right away.

Band is one class with many opportunities. We have Marching Band, Pep-Band, Jazz Band, Concert Band and many small ensembles as well.

The state of Colorado requires an $80.00 fee to take band. Special arrangements can be made to pay this fee if there is financial need.

Each student is given 10 points per day for working hard and behaving in class. If a student is disruptive, then the points are taken away.

Performances are mandatory. Each performance is given a point value. If a student can not make a performance, the absence must be confirmed by a parent by phone call to me or my written note. An excused absence in the grade book will be a green check mark. If Mr. Smith does not receive confirmation prior to the absence, then the student will receive a zero for that performance.

All rehearsals are mandatory. Any student that misses a rehearsal prior to a performance will not be allowed to perform.

Awards and Other Opportunities

A letter is available in band. You must earn 500 points in specific areas over the four years to earn a letter in band. The letter form is posted in Moodle.

Honor bands are a great way to expand your horizons as a player. There are several available.
